Home < Courtroom Technology < Video conferencing Videoconferencing is the newest of our courtroom technologies. While it has the potential to be extremely useful at trial or in the discovery phase of litigation, it can and has been the most problematic. Problems with far-end facilities and equipment, inconsistent practice with signal carriers, and user error can lead to frustration, but advance planning, practice, and in-depth knowledge of the equipment can make a difference. Discovery depositions: the court has equipment available (referred to as the roll-around system) that attorneys can use for conducting depositions. While the service is free of charge for domestic calls, it is the user's responsibility to become familiar with the equipment, set up the call (including far-end arrangements), and provide a stenographic record if one is desired. If you wish to use this equipment, you need to make arrangements with the case manager assigned to the case. Please familiarize yourself with the Roll-Around Operator's Guide prior to arriving at the courthouse. Videoconferencing is available in Courtrooms #1 and #4. If you wish to use this equipment during a hearing or trial, you should let the court know well in advance. While court staff will operate the majority of the equipment, you have numerous responsibilities as outlined above; therefore, you will need to familiarize yourself with the Courtroom Video conferencing Guidelines prior to arriving at the courthouse. |
