Home < Electronic Case Files < ECF PACER Improved Functionality As with the prior PACER system, users can still run a Query by case number, party name and filing date. PACER, however, now permits users to query by the “nature of the suit,” allowing the public to identify all cases filed that allege a specific cause of action (i.e. medical malpractice, copyright, stockholder suit). The “name type” function allows users to more narrowly define their last name searches by party or attorney. Once users have located the desired case, they may run a “docket sheet report” as was available in PACER. Additionally, the “related transaction” function allows users to locate all documents filed in response to a particular pleading of interest to them in a case. The “filer” function identifies the pleadings filed by each party to a case and the “attorneys” and “parties” functions list the attorneys and parties in a case, respectively. By selecting “deadlines/hearings,” users can see all the deadlines for a specific case. PACER also includes Reports options that were not before available to users. This gives users the ability to search the court’s criminal and civil docket using various criteria. |
