Home < Jury Service < Grand Jury - Reporting For Jury Duty As a grand juror you will generally serve for a term of 12 months beginning on the orientation date that appears on your summons. Although unusual, when necessary the court may extend your service for up to two years. You will be called to serve an average of 2 days per month (one day every other week). All grand jurors are instructed to call the toll free jury line at 1-800-776-0320 (Option 6) after 1:30 p.m. on the day before the reporting date. If a juror has a rotary telephone, s/he should immediately call the jury staff line and arrange special phone-in procedures. Several events will occur the first day of grand jury service. Following a brief orientation, the grand jury panel will be selected and will receive an oath of service and grand jury charge. Thereafter, an attorney from the United States Attorney's Office will discuss the responsibilities of a grand juror as well as the role of the grand jury in the investigative process. A typical grand jury day begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends before 5:00 p.m. There are breaks throughout the day. Jurors are permitted to leave the courthouse during their lunch break. Hot and cold beverages are provided during your time at the courthouse. |
