Effective April 1, 2017, the court's local rule 67.2 addressing funds deposited with the court will change to address fees and taxes applicable to those deposits that involve interpleader funds (also referred to as disputed ownership funds). Parties filing in ECF a motion to deposit interpleader funds with the court or to seek a disbursement of such funds will need to use specific ECF events to do so, as outlined in our Filing Tips for interpleader funds.

Please be advised that the first floor Clerk's Office intake area has been reopened to the public.  Bar Cards are now available to be issued.

We have become aware that persons around the country are receiving telephone calls that appear to be from the court because the court's main phone number - 603-225-1423 - appears as the caller id. 

The calls seem aimed at obtaining personal and financial information. Some messages left by these calls include the threat of a lawsuit.

These are not calls from our court. 

If you receive one of these calls, you should report it to the U.S. Marshal's Office for the District of New Hampshire - 603-225-1632.

Please be advised that the Clerk's Office will be relocated to the U.S. Probation & Pretrail Services reception area on the second floor of the courthouse from January 30 to February 24, 2017.  No Bar Cards will be issued during this time. There will be signs in the courthouse directing visitors to the U.S. Probation & Pretrial Services area.

The First Circuit is seeking comment on its consideration of the reappointment of Federal Defender Miriam Conrad to a new four year term of office. The circuit's notice can be viewed here. The comment period closes March 3, 2017.

Please note that the amendments to Fed. R. Civ. P. 6(d) and Fed. R. Crim. P. 45(c), affecting deadlines for filing or taking other action after service, become effective December 1, 2016. The amendments “remove service by electronic means under Fed. R. Civ. P. 5(b)(2)(E) from the modes of service that allow 3 added days to act after being served.” See Fed. R. Civ. P. 6, advisory committee's note.

We have become aware of another jury scam that has been recently occurring in NH. The scammer is phoning potential victims, telling them that a warrant has been issued for their arrest for failing to report for jury duty or for other reasons. The scammer is directing potential victims to meet at a sheriff's office or other location to make payment to avoid arrest or prosecution. This is not how this court communicates with jurors. If you receive such a call, you should report it to the U.S.

The court will host the 9th Federal Practice Institute on Friday, October 7, 2016. General registration will open on August 23. Early registration is being offered now for members of the NH Bar-Federal Practice Section; NH Chapter of the Federal Bar Association; the court's Federal Court Advisory Committee (FCAC); and new lawyers (with five years or less experience), and early registration for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Federal Defender Office, CJA Panel Attorneys, and the NH Bankruptcy Bar will open on August 8.

Anyone filing documents with the court are reminded to consider that all filings will be remotely available to the public via the court’s electronic filing system absent an order from the court or redaction as required by the federal and local rules. As a consequence, anyone filing documents with the court should exercise caution when filing such documents, and either redact information required by rule to be redacted or file a motion to seal the filing or certain information contained in the filing.

Beginning June 20, 2016, all sentencing letters (i.e. character letters or victim impact statements) that are not submitted to the court as an attachment to a pleading (such as letters submitted at a sentencing hearing or via the U.S. Probation Office) will be docketed in the court's electronic case docket when received by the court and available to the public via the public terminals located in the clerk's office.

This year, scammers posing as federal court personnel have become more prevalent, sophisticated, and aggressive. These scammers phone or email potential victims, typically demanding money and threatening citizens with arrest for alleged failure to pay a fine or report for jury duty. The court's local rule amendments go into effect December 1, 2015. The electronic and pdf versions of the rules available on the court's website have been updated. Please note that the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure also have been amended, effective December 1, 2015.
