The court will be hosting the 2023 Federal Practice Institute on Friday, September 29, 2023.  The event will begin with Attorney John F. Weaver speaking on the evolving legal challenges presented by artificial intelligence and the invasion and protection of privacy interests.  That will be followed by a session entitled “Observations from the Bench,” led by District Judge Elliott and Magistrate Judge Johnstone.  The afternoon will feature Attorneys Roberta D. Liebenberg and Stephanie A.

The Court is very pleased to announce that it has selected Talesha L. Saint-Marc, Esq., to fill the second full-time United States Magistrate Judge position in the District of New Hampshire. Effective December 1, 2022, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure will be amended to add Supplemental Rules for Social Security review cases under 42 U.S.C § 405(g) (“Supplemental SSA Rules”). For more details on the new Supplemental SSA Rules, as well as the slight modifications to the district’s SSA local rule (LR 9.1) necessitated by the federal rule amendment, click here.

Effective December 1, 2022, Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 7.1 will be amended to add the requirement that all parties and intervenors in diversity cases must file a disclosure statement naming, and identifying the citizenship of, “every individual or entity whose citizenship is attributed to that party or intervenor.” Additionally, Fed. R. Civ. P. 7.1 will be amended to clarify that a nongovernmental corporate “intervenor” also must file a corporate disclosure statement.

The court is considering the attached proposed amendments to the Local Rules for adoption effective December 1, 2022. The court welcomes input about any of the proposed amendments from the public and bar.

The United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire will host an Ethics Forum at the Rudman Courthouse on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 9:00 to 10:00 am. The presenters for the forum will be Sara Greene, Disciplinary Counsel for the NH Supreme Court Attorney Discipline Office, and David Rothstein, NH State Public Defender and Former Chair of the Professional Conduct Committee.

The United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire will host a Federal Judge Open Forum at the Rudman Courthouse on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 9:00 to 10:30 am. The event, which will be moderated by Peter Callaghan and Debra Ford, will afford attendees the opportunity to participate in an interactive question and answer session with the federal judges.

The United States District Court, along with 603 Legal Aid, present the annual POWER Act event on September 15, 2022, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Warren B. Rudman Courthouse, with outdoor reception to follow. Brian Moushegian from the Attorney Discipline Office will focus on how practitioners can utilize their skills and maximize their limited time to support survivors of intimate partner violence with wide-ranging legal issues when providing unbundled legal services. This program offers one hour of Ethics CLE credit. Registration is required, as space is limited.
