Position Overview

The United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire is accepting applications for a full-time Official Court Reporter who possesses excellent organizational and customer service skills.  The successful candidate will be industrious, creative, intelligent, diplomatic, energetic, forward thinking, dynamic, public service oriented and versatile with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.  Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.  Candidates will be expected to work in a team environment and possess the ability to interact with all segments of the legal community and public.

Representative Duties

  • Court Reporter is responsible for the verbatim reporting of proceedings held before United States District Judges and Magistrate Judges and for the transcription of those proceedings on request.
  • Court Reporter must be able to read back all or any portions of the court record, perform well under pressure, produce transcripts within strict time limitations, and work as part of a team of reporters for the Judges of the Court.
  • Court Reporter must possess the knowledge, skill and ability to produce accurate, simultaneous Realtime translation utilizing their own software and equipment.
  • Court Reporter must be familiar with and adhere to all requirements of the Management Plan for the Effective Utilization of Court Reporters for the District of New Hampshire and the Guide to Judiciary Policy, Volume 6.
  • Court Reporter must comply with all administrative duties assigned by his or her manager and the Court.
  • Court Reporter must adhere to the court unit’s internal control procedures.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess at least four years of court reporting experience in the freelance field of service or in other courts, or a combination thereof.  Candidates must have qualified by testing for listing on the registry of professional reporters of the National Court Reporters Association or passed an equivalent qualifying examination.  Candidates must be a Certified Realtime Reporter through NCRA or USCRA.

Additional Information

  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
  • Employees of the United States District Court are “at will” employees and are required to adhere to a Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees.
  • The selected candidate will be subject to a background check (including references, criminal history, and credit history) as a condition of employment.  The person selected for this position will also be required to submit fingerprints for an FBI background check.  Employment will be considered provisional pending the successful completion of a ten-year background investigation.
  • All appointments are subject to mandatory electronic funds transfer for payment of net pay.
